He is the sweetest boy-- and he loves the grandkids, especially one of them. In January, he had a bout of HGE. Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis. It's one of those bad things you never want your dogs to get.
We did take Chumley to the vet immediately. He was in the quiet ward, so he could have peace and rest. And when it happened again, we took him to the vet immediately. Then, the third time, we took him to the vet immediately. And the fourth time, a few days ago, we took him, and had an ultrasound done to see if there was something going on that we had missed before (with all the tests, bloodwork, treatment....). Nothing showed up.So Chumley is on rest, meds and home. Yes, home. Not the vet. Each time he was at the vet, he came home depressed, so now we have decided to do all we can at home. We hope this will pass, that he can get better. When HGE comes back over and over, it takes a toll.
So, Chumley is home, resting and on medication. We love this boy-- but he's tired of fighting. We hope he rallies. He just might. He ate today-- a good sign. He gets NOTHING but his special food. NOTHING. (Too many of us give in and give our dogs things they should not have and the dogs pay a price. We are the ones who are in charge and they depend on us.) Hoping for many good days and months ahead for our sweet boy.
