Duncan was in a shelter in December. He was a senior and visually and hearing impaired. Sherry went and adopted him-- he needed out of the shelter and they didn't work with rescue.
He seemed to feel comfortable. He began to relax.
Dogs seem to know when someone cares, especially when their life has been rough. Duncan knew.
He seemed to be able to see shapes. When you adopt a dog from a shelter, you don't know everything that you would know if you adopt from a rescue. Sherry didn't know that he had heart issues. There was fluid around his heart. It's amazing he survived as long as he did. Duncan began to develop (or show what was already going on) neurological issues. He began to show signs of pain. The vet said he had dementia and his quality of life was diminishing quickly. He began circling and could not calm down. He was in discomfort. He could not relax. After only six weeks to love and care for him, Sherry and her vet knew it was time He was whimpering and showing he was ready. Even when you do everything you can for a dog, it doesn't mean you can fix them or save them. Sometimes, you just have to love and hold them as you let them go. That's what Sherry did. Duncan may have been with her only six weeks, but he was deeply loved. Sherry said, "It was SO rewarding to watch him learn to trust. I believe that we blessed his life with unconditional love and safety and care. This is the last loving thing that we can do. I am very sad, but only want him to be free of pain. I hope you will run free, little man." 💙 He is free now.
