These two beauties are coming in. Their owners divorced and no one wanted them. Another fall-out -- it's so sad. We'll find out their names and more information.

Must Love Pekes is a blog for those who love Pekingese -- their looks, their antics, their personalities. It is written by me, Linda, and I have been rescuing Pekingese for over 20 years. Lots of them have come through our home. We have loved them all.

Genie "Pixie Dust" is a little ten pounder that we just got. She was vetted in Roanoke and just came to my house. She is a tiny little thing and not a bit aggressive. She is with other dogs and gets along great.
She loves to go outside and wander in the yard with me. She does well in the house, but still needs a bit of housetraining. I think she is a quick study.
"Is there something over there I can check out?" I'm sure there is.
Pixie is at my feet as I write this blog. She follows me everywhere and would love to sleep on the bed-- but she's fine in her playpen where she can see me (too many on the bed). If you would be interested in this little 2 year old, let us know!
We received an email from a shelter near me. These two Pekes are in need of rescue. They have been in the shelter two months and need help. Above is Lele, a ten year old female Pekingese. Lele's family moved out of the country and did not find her a home first. She was nervous about being in a new situation, but warmed up with gentle attention. She would do fine with other dogs and loves to be cuddled. She can do limited stairs, and would do best without small children-- not because she's mean, but because she would prefer a quiet home
This is Chip-- his family turned him in because the younger children were being too rough with him. (Don't get me started.) He loves attention and having his belly rubbed and being held like a baby. He love to sit on the couch with you and just veg. He is unable to participate in a lengthy exercise because of a heart problem, but he'd rather just hang out anyway.
I've had Scooter his whole life. I met him when he was only 3 weeks old. We called him Big Boy because he was an ounce bigger than his sisters (four of them!) when he was born (he was 4 ounces). He was a big eater and would push them out of the way. Eating is still his passion.
Scooter has a big tongue!
He helps me clean the dishes with ease.
He is silly, too. He lets us do anything to him.
He tried to fit on the shelf of the coffee table-- it was a tight fit. You see, Scooter is not a small Pekes. He ranges from 18 to 19 pounds.
He's not the brightest Peke in the world. But, he is one of the sweetest. He still "has accidents" so sometimes wears a belly band. It took over a year to train him, but he never got the whole housetraining thing. Or maybe I just failed at teaching him.
He has been a great foster brother--this was about 6 years ago. He was with Stitch, a foster who now lives in Maryland.
We went on a trip last week and there was a huge thunderstorm. Our housesitter could not find him anywhere. She finally found him upstairs, in the bathtub behind the curtain. He was finding the safest place he could get into. Poor Scooter! He recovered quickly and was fine. I love my Scooterbug!
Climbed into Beach Bit's car seat and fell asleep. She and Cowboy were so good on the ride. And they are both super sweet dogs!! If you are interested in one of them, let us know. Potomacpekes@gmail.com
Here is sweet Jelly. I did a blog on him recently.
Jelly is busy being a foster brother to Charlie-Bear (above) and Wheatly (yesterday's blog).
Jelly was a foster himself, so he knows how much these new ones want to fit it.
I'm sure his quiet dismeanor will help them. He'll let them know they are safe there.
He is trying to play with them a little bit-- a new thing for Jelly who was terrified when he came to rescue. He had a rough life, but now his mom is his very favorite person. I love knowing he will be loved the rest of his life. Now to find that loving home for the rest. I know Jelly is doing what he can to help!! Go, Jelly!
This is Wheatly. He had another name-- but we gave him a new one for a new start at life.
His brother, Bobby Socks, was turned in to the same shelter last November. We think they are brothers-- but we're just guessing. The same owner turned them both in. Why have a dog if you just are going to turn it into a shelter? (They "didn't have time.")
Wheatly is only a year old. (Ignore the date on the photo-- the camera was "off.")
He is with Marilyn and foster, Charlie-Bear. And Jelly and Cheech, Marilyn's two dogs.
He is a little timid, but will fit in quickly.
Oh, look at those teeth. :-)
He will be ready for a new home soon!! He's young, so he should go quickly.
